Who We Are

Wildcat KidPower is a group of five senior mechanical engineering students currently attending Villanova University.  For our senior design capstone project, we plan on building a seesaw out of bamboo to be used in third-world countries.  This seesaw would not be just for fun, however.  This common playground toy is planned to have two bicycle pumps on it that would be able to pump water for the local villiage.

Objective

The objective of Wildcat KidPower is to design and build a child-powered device that is capable of producing energy and pumping water.  The device would be made out of locally obtainable and off-the-shelf materials.  Preliminary thoughts are a bamboo seesaw with modified bicycle pumps for pumping water.  The final product would be easy to use by children, safe, and easy to fix with no special tools or custom parts.

Why KidPower?

The primary goal of this project is to  a bamboo seesaw that children will have fun and get enjoyment out of.  Secondly, the device would convert the boundless energy of children into the pumping of water for the village with minimal effort.

Villanova University Capstone Senior Design Project

Senior Design is a capstone course that requires students to work in teams to solve a real-world engineering problem.  This course requires students to plan, design, and manufacture a product.  Villanova University’s Wildcat KidPower team hopes to create a bamboo seesaw that will be used by children to pump water for a local village in a third world country.
